Help

Answers to the questions hikers and organizers ask most. Can’t find yours? Write to support@wehike.app.

Account and sign-in

Do I need an account?

Not to look around: you can browse the map and open trails as a guest. Sign in to record, rate, join outings and add connections.

How do I sign in?

With an email address and a password, or with your Google account.

What is my handle?

Your public name on WeHike, like @nadia_hikes: 3 to 20 lowercase letters, digits or underscores, and only yours. It appears on the trails you publish, your ratings and your outings.

I forgot my password

On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot password and follow the link we email you. If you signed up with Google, sign in with Google instead.

Is there a minimum age?

Yes. WeHike is for adults: you must be 18 or older.

Maps and offline maps

What map does WeHike use?

Maps drawn from OpenStreetMap data. Trails, outings and your planned hikes appear on top of it.

How do offline maps work?

Open a trail and tap Download: the map along the trail is saved on your phone. The free plan keeps 3 trails at a time; WeHike+ keeps as many as you like and adds whole regions. Downloaded maps stay on your phone even if your plan ends.

Where do the trails come from?

From hikers. Every trail was recorded or uploaded as a GPX file by a member, then scored by the people who walked it. WeHike does not copy trails from other apps or sites.

Can I export my hikes?

Yes. Export any of your recordings as a GPX file, on every plan.

Recording and battery

Does recording work with the screen off?

Yes. Recording runs with a visible notification, so it keeps going with the screen off and without a signal. WeHike never asks for background location: recording stops when you stop it.

How do I save battery on a long hike?

Download the trail before you leave, keep the screen off between checks and carry a power bank on long days. WeHike pauses the recording on its own when you stop moving.

Recording stopped by itself. What happened?

Some phones close apps to save battery, even while they record. In Android settings, set WeHike’s battery use to Unrestricted (the wording depends on the brand). WeHike keeps what was recorded and lets you resume.

Can I follow a trail?

Yes. Open a trail and tap Follow: WeHike shows where you are on it and warns you when you leave it.

How do I publish a trail?

Stop a recording or upload a GPX file, give it a name and publish it. Before anything is public, WeHike removes the times and cuts 200 m at both ends and anything inside your privacy zones. Your first contribution asks you to accept the terms of use.

Planned hikes and weather

What does the weather verdict mean?

For a planned hike, WeHike reads the forecast for your hike window and gives one verdict, go, caution or no-go, with its reasons: thunderstorms, heavy rain, strong gusts, a snow line below the summit, heat or cold, low visibility, high UV, or too little daylight to finish.

Will I know if the forecast changes?

Yes. WeHike checks again 48, 24 and 6 hours before your start and sends a notification when the verdict changes, plus a reminder the day before.

How far ahead can I plan?

With the free plan, 2 planned hikes at a time, starting within 7 days. With WeHike+, as many as you like, up to 16 days ahead. Beyond 7 days the verdict is marked as less certain.

Where does the forecast come from?

From Open-Meteo, through WeHike’s servers: your identity is never sent to the weather service.

What does “Fits you” mean?

A personal verdict on a trail: WeHike weighs its grade and scores against the fitness level in your profile and the weather of the day.

Outings

How do I join an outing?

Open it from the map or from a link, confirm that you have the required level and will bring the required gear, and join. If it is full, join the waitlist.

How does the waitlist work?

When someone leaves, the first person on the waitlist is offered the place and has a set time to confirm. Otherwise the place goes to the next person.

Why does an outing for 10 show 9 places?

Capacity counts the organizer, who always holds a place.

I received an invite code

Invite-only outings stay off the map. In WeHike, tap + and choose Join with a code, or open the invite link on your phone.

How does check-in work?

When the outing starts, check in from the outing within 300 m of the meeting point. The organizer sees the headcount and closes the outing once everyone is accounted for.

I can’t come any more

Leave the outing as early as you can, so your place goes to the waitlist. After the RSVP deadline the organizer has planned with you: tell them as well.

Connections

What are connections?

People you know on WeHike. One of you sends a request and the other accepts it. Connections see your home region, fitness level and statistics, and the outings you open to connections only.

Can I remove a connection?

Yes, from your connections list, at any time. They are not told.

Report and block

How do I report something?

Every trail, condition report, outing, question, profile and club page has Report in its menu. When 3 members report the same thing, it is hidden until it is reviewed.

What does blocking do?

Blocking someone ends your connection, stops them from joining your outings and hides their questions from you. They are not told.

My content was hidden. Can I appeal?

Yes. Write to support@wehike.app: we will review the decision and explain it.

Privacy

What are privacy zones?

Circles you place on the map, around your home for example. Anything you record inside them is cut from the trails you publish.

Why does my published trail start further along?

WeHike cuts 200 m at both ends of every published track and removes its times, so nobody can tell where you started or when you walked.

Who sees my original recording?

Only you. The original GPX file stays private in your account; only the trimmed track is public, and only if you publish it.

Does WeHike track my location?

Only while the app is open, or while you record or follow a trail with a notification on screen. Your position on the map is never stored or shared.

What do organizers see about me?

Your handle, your display name and a reliability badge: new, reliable or no record yet. Your attendance counts stay private.

Where is the full policy?

In the privacy policy.

Plans and billing

What stays free?

Browsing and search, recording, publishing and rating trails, GPX export, following a trail with its off-route alert, the weather verdict, the emergency contact, joining outings and connections.

How do I subscribe?

In WeHike, open your profile and tap WeHike+. Subscriptions go through Google Play, which shows the price in your currency before you confirm.

How do I cancel?

In Google Play, or from WeHike with Manage subscription. You keep the plan until the end of the period you paid for.

Refunds, a new phone, a plan that ends

All billing questions are answered on Plans and billing.

Deleting your account

How do I delete my account?

In WeHike, open your profile, then Settings, then Delete account, and confirm by signing in again. The steps are also on Delete your account.

Does it cancel my subscription?

Not by itself. Cancel it in Google Play first; we also try to stop the renewal, but only Google Play can confirm it.

What happens to my trails?

Trails you published stay available to the community, with the author shown as a deleted account. Write to us if you want a trail removed. Everything else is listed on Delete your account.

Still stuck?

Write to support@wehike.app in any of WeHike’s languages. If something does not work, tell us your phone model and Android version.
